So who remembers the great Jak and Daxter titles for the PS2? If you remember them then you know doubt loved them. Well good news for all the fans of Jak and Daxter out there you can finally take all that action on the road with Daxter for the PSP.
The game takes place between Jak and Daxter, and Jak II. You get to play as the sidekick Daxter, who takes a part-time job as a pest exterminator. He does this for two reasons, it'll give him some money because he went broke and it also boosts his ego. Fans already know Daxter is the most rude, obnoxious and self conceiting sidekick. He also takes the job to help him save Jak, who gets himself imprisoned at the beginning of the game, somewhat seriously.
Visuals
The first thing you値l notice about Daxter is the visuals of the game. This game is by far the best looking game out on the PSP right now. The graphics stay very true to the PS2 titles and are nearly if not as good as the PS2 counterparts. When you play through certain sections of the game you値l notice that you may have been in these areas before either during Jak and Daxter or possible Jak II. Some of the environments may be the same as they were in the other games but you get an entirely different perspective of things from the viewpoint of Daxter. What seemed as a simple jump before to Jak is now a huge leap for little Daxter.
The games indoor and outside environments are all sharp, crisp, and very clean. The levels are full of detail, even the smallest parts of the world. During the construction site level you will be able to break bags of cement and they will fill the screen with dust. Many other items found in the environment are fully destructible as well. Such as the previously mentioned cement bags, you値l also be able to break windows, flashlights, helmets, melt ice, and burn down cobwebs.
The character model of Daxter is far more detailed than that of even the PS2 Jak games. Daxter features full fur shading and he is very smooth. The other characters in the game fit the Jak universe flawlessly. They are all top-notch done in the visual department. Hair in characters won稚 be a flat texture like most games, but, actually have fuzz on a character's beard.
Gameplay
The developers take Daxter back to the series roots and plays out much like the original Jak and Daxter. As you explore the many levels you値l have several option to completing the missions at hand. You値l start off the game with only an electric fly swatter and a bug spray gun.
That is a lot of empty space to platform hop over
The spray gun is key for Daxter for complete the platforming levels of this game. This is also where the developers got creative. If you jump then hold down the spray button it will allow you to hover in the air for a few seconds so you can overcome gaps in the floor or to reach the next ledge. The spray is also flammable so when you are hovering and you go over an open flame you will get a boost and send Daxter higher than he originally would have been to obtain. The spray gun also is a great weapon to use against the many different type of bugs you will encounter throughout the game because it値l temporarily freeze them. As you progress through the game you will also acquire several power-ups for your gun. These include a flamethrower and a sonic-wave technique.
