Strap yourself in behind the most realistic racer available on the PSP. Race Driver 2006 delivers what the titles says racing. Race Driver 2006 is a delayed release from the original series TOCA: Ultimate Racing Simulator and was delayed so Codemasters could add content and more playability for PSP users. Race Driver 2006 has both a deep multiplayer and single player experience that can be hard to find on a racing title, especially for a racing title on a portable system.
Features:
Expansive multiplayer both online and LAN; LAN multiplayer allows four players to play while using only one UMD
Customizable soundtracks
The most realistic graphics, models and car damage in a simulator available to date.
Gameplay:
Sony consoles have excelled in the racing genres and even in third party titles, and the TOCA: Ultimate Racing Simulator series by Codemasters continuously stays in the running for the top racing game. Race Driver 2006 provides the most in depth racing experience with a career, Trans World Cup, and expansive online mode.
Career mode says what it is, chose your path and race your way through the ranks and circuits by placing within the top three racers and trying to collect enough cash to pay for the entrance to more advanced circuits and prove to your sponsors you’re a reliable investment. When in career mode and one is not able to achieve the goal, your will not lose any progress, but the player will have to restart the circuit. The are 15 circuits featured in the career include Formula 1 racing, gran prix super car racing, truck racing, as well exotic racing.
The Trans World Cup features a wide variety of racing challenges including basic racing competitions (such as Time Trials, Duels, and mini Championships) but also new challenges for example: “No Damage”, “Bring It Home”, “Drive the Line”, “Show Off” and “Pit In”. In the “No Damage” event, it’s the driver’s job to win the race and bring the car home without any damage; the “Bring It Home” challenge places the player behind the wheel of a damage car and it’s your job to win the race. In the “Drive the Line” event, the player has to follow the race line but also beat the clock. The “Show Off” challenge allows the driver to show off their skills in drifts and putting the car airborne; in the “Pit In” event, the racer will have to strategically choose when to pit their car to allow for the least amount of lost time. All of these events have TWC (Trans World Cup) points and the most points possible are ten.
Race Driver 2006 was delayed to make the title more playable for the PSP and the wait was worth it. The multiplayer was greatly expanded and can allow up to four players with only one UMD. While online, up to 12 players can be in a race. The players can either race as a team or in individual.
