Capcom Classics Collection Reloaded
REVIEW: Capcom brings back the classics.
November 26, 2006 | 6:09 PM PST

by: Matt Furtado

Capcom released Capcoms Classics Remixed early last year and the title has some of the best classic games around such as fan favorite Strider, Final Fight, and many others. Sadly it didn't contain other favorites like Street Fighter 2, Knights of the Round, and the entire Ghosts 'N Goblins series. Well thankfully Capcom went back into their history books and took out another chapter of old classics to be released in a whole new collection for the PSP. With a total of 19 classic titles with revamped gameplay modes from the originals Capcom is showing some love for the old school gamer in all of us.

FEATURES :

  • More than 15 arcade-perfect classics on a single UMD

  • Hundreds of hours of nostalgic fun

  • A wealth of added features including game history, playing tips, original artwork, and new secret codes

  • Customizable controls to suit any gaming style

Gameplay

Capcom has brought 19 of their classics titles onto the PSP and although the transition to a new system has given the games some new and well welcomed gameplay updates nothing can beat the old-school feel of the classics. Capcom has left the original game fully intact in each game and has simply expanded upon it in good ways. Unlike remaking an old title and adding new features, which can take away from the original attraction, Capcom instead did straight ports of the titles and emulated them perfectly on this collection. So if you aren't old enough to remember these games or you remember them and just never got a chance to play them this is your chance to the play them as close to their original form as you're going to get.

The biggest games in the collection are Street Fighter 2, Knights of the Round, Eco Fighters, and the Ghosts 'N Goblins series. Each one of these games were big titles back when they were originally released and this collection shows why they were so well loved back then.

Street Fighter has always been seen as the best 2D fighter to hit arcades and home consoles. The game featured flawless controls, moves, and a memorable cast of characters for different locations around the world. With all these great things its no wonder why the series took off and became one of the highest grossing arcade titles of all-time. Now you can take the original Street Fighter II and the entire Street Fighter series on the go with you. Capcom has thrown in Street Fighter II, Street Fighter II Champion Edition, and Street Fighter II Hyper Fighting into this collection. Street Fighter II is the basic slim-down version of this classic title. It featured the original 8 characters which include Ken, Ryu, Vega, Guile, and others. The Champion Edition builds on the original and also introduces the ability to play with the original games four boss characters which includes series long-time villain M. Bison. Street Fighter II Hyper Fighting features the biggest upgrade for the series with improved game balance and the addition of turbo speed. Turbo speed isn't exactly what it sounds like though. The characters don't move like maniacs but instead you fight at a quicker speed than in the original version. Chances are many gamers will remember the Hyper Fighting version the most over the original game. Capcom included Ad/Hoc wireless multiplayer to all these games to take advantage of the PSP's wireless play. So if you know another PSP owner and they own a copy of the game get ready for some serious 2D fighting.
