The PSP has had mostly ports of PS2 titles but it has had its fair share of original titles and Gurumin is one of them. Take role of Parin a young girl who has just moved into a town called Tiese. The town consists of miners and sadly has no other children outside of the newly arrived Parin. Being the young and rambunctious child that Parin is the first thing she does is explore the town and tries to make some friends with the townsfolk. As she explores the town she comes across an interesting looking boy which she discovers is a monster. Pleased to meet her new friend Parin goes with Pino the monster into Monster Village and meets a whole bunch of other monsters. But no all is well in Monster Village when the mysterious Phantoms attack and the Prince of Phantoms appears with a small group of Phantoms searching for the other monsters in the town. Now it's time to get ready for a Monstrous Adventure.

FEATURES :

  • Non-linear game play set in vast world with a variety of stages in different environments.

  • Twenty-three non-player characters, 48 unique enemies, and over 90 items to collect.

  • Mini-games galore!

Gameplay

Now that the monsters are kidnapped it’s time to get ready for your adventure and rescue all of them from the hands of the evil Phantoms. Parin will start-off with the basic moves and be equipped with a large drill which will allow her to drill through rocks and kill opponents with it. Parin can stab, slash, corkscrew, and throw enemies into the air. When enemies are in the air you can link attacks together and take out multiple enemies before hitting the ground. Parin also has the ability to charge up the drill and this will allow her to perform special attacks. By charging up the drill Parin will be able to drill through walls that have cracks in them and move into blocked off regions throughout the level. After each attack Parin performs the drill gauge will fill up and the higher it fills the higher the level of the drill will gain. However, whenever she is hit the gauge will decrease slightly. Parin can level up her drill three times before reaching its peak. The higher the level the more damage will be dealt on the enemy and special attacks will also be unlocked. One of the special attacks that Parin has is a laser beam that will shoot from the drill when it’s at its highest level.

The battle system of the game is very simplistic and very fun. When you engage in the battles with the Phantom’s things get interesting. At times you will be surrounded by multiple enemies and this makes things interesting. Parin does have the ability to do a quick dodge which will maneuver her in a spin blocking attacks. However, when surrounded by 4 enemies at once you will more than likely still be hit once or twice. To throw some mix into the game some of the enemies will also be quipped with armor and the only way to remove the equipment will be to drill them and shred the armor off the enemy. After removing the armor Parin can pick the pieces up and use them later in town to gain new accessories and abilities. If you return to Tiese you will be able to use the pieces of armor and will be able to get abilities varying from immunity to certain techniques or even increase the amount of coins the enemy will drop after being defeated.
