E3 Disclaimer: AMN's E3 previews are designed to inform you of what each game at E3 plays like, and what we think of what's shown. These previews are not reviews, and we reserve final judgment of each game until it is finished and released. These previews offer an honest opinion of what a publisher chose to demo at E3. So without further ado, read on.
What the Game's About
This technological spin-off of the farming sim game revolves around a world which has become so advanced that they have forgotten their roots. As you start the game, you see that you are a robot. Your father/creator, Hope Grain, placed within your design a desire and propensity to become increasingly human. The creator did this as a clever way around rekindling the growing anger the Nature Spirits on Heart Flame Island have for its inhabitants. Steadily as the tech savvy locals progress, they disrespect and forget their earth loving roots. The Spirits are enraged threatening to erupt the volcano in order to destroy the citizens. The robotic boy pleads with this TV, ATV, and hi-tech obsessed world for a return to nature.
What's Hot
This island hemisphere bound for destruction provides an unexpected backdrop for a Harvest Moon game. The fully developed city where you are placed is completely futuristic. Although the idea is to get the locals to return to their roots, you are still able to use robotics in your favor, such as unlocking a robot to do the watering of the crops for you.
What's Not
The demo worked well logistically. Even the deeper storyline is appealing. However we can't help but wonder what having mechanized chores done for you will do to the already gentle pace.
Outlook
Natsume's Harvest Moon Innocent Life is appealing in that the new setting provides a fresh outlook. The idea of even robotic pets appeals to us. We enjoyed the PSP version but also will want to check out the new version coming out in the October 07 on the PS2 with its increased number of scenarios, the close-up angles which appear when speaking with someone that the PSP didn't have. One of the best features will be a dictionary that tells you what you need to buy and do in order to complete the game.
