Ever want to make a Jackass out of yourself?

by: Matt Furtado

Ever want to make a jackass out of yourself? If you’re a member of the Jackass crew you sure have proven that you’re a jackass to the world and we would like to thank you for that. Honestly, thank you for the mayhem, stunts, and mischief you all create on the show. Since before every show you tell us “Don’t Attempt This At Home,” many people walk away sad that they can’t join in the pleasure of making complete jackasses of themselves. Sidhe Interactive and Red Mile Entertainment have been hard at work to let gamers recreate the stunts and everything that makes the show great with Jackass: The Game. We recently sat down with a build of the game and got some solid impressions.

Jackass: The Game starts off with Johnny Knoxville trying to gather the old cast of the show back together such as Wee-Man, Chris Pontius, and Steve-O for a new season of the show. However Jeff Tremaine, Jackass Director, gets a little more the he can handle when trying to partake in a stunt involving a fire hydrant. Let’s just say fire hydrants and groin regions don’t mix well. Well the new season is bound to be canceled now, right? Wrong. Players will take on the role of Jeff Tremaine’s assistant producer and director. Johnny will call you and give you assignments of stunts that you’ll need to gather footage of for new episodes.

The games story mode takes place over seven episodes, each consisting of five stunts, varying over different locations. The majority of the stunts aren’t from the show mainly for the reason that they can’t be done -- it’s almost guaranteed death or serious injury. Each stunt will have several goals that you’ll need to complete before the footage is ready for the episode. The opening episode will only have players required to achieve a bronze ranking in the stunts. The goals will vary in what needs to be accomplished from breaking golf flags, break a fire hydrant, or shatter a glass shed. Naturally they will get more complicated, such as rolling down a San Francisco hill and trying to maneuver a trashcan underneath a truck or not hitting anything. With every hard stunt there is an easy one such as Wac-A-Wee-Man, a spin on the traditional Wack-A-Mole game.

With stunts will come injuries and this game will allow you to really mess up any Jackass character. During any stunt, players will be able to bail out and launch their character into the air. Players will be able to control flight in mid-air and control where the character will land. During one stunt it had us launching a character out of a slingshot and making them land in an open trunk. Outside of completing stunt objectives, bailing out will also inflict damage on the characters. Landings will vary from breaking bones, puncturing organs, and other wounds. During our play through the highest medical bill received was over $55,000. Now that’s what you’d call massive damage. As fun as it is to watch someone inflict this kind of pain to themselves, the injury will give you chances to boost the number of points that you receive towards your bronze, silver, or gold rating for the stunt.

Once you gain enough points and passed enough stunts, you can move onto filming the next episode. This will allow players to move forward without being hindered by harder stunts that seem impossible to complete. However, for those who do complete all the stunts completely, you’ll be rewarded with bonus points to the Jackass Mart for new tricks props, behind the scenes movies, and new outfits for the cast members. Once a stunt is completed, they will then be available in Challenge mode, where the stunts will become much harder to pull off, or in multiplayer mode. Four players can partake in Ass-to-Ass mode (Head to Head) or Round Robin via Ad Hoc. Infrastructure mode is planned but will only have Ass-to-Ass to play.

Players will be able to save replays of their stunts, edit them, change camera angles, and the overall the look of the footage from the Director Mode. Players will have the option of combining six replays and they can be combined in any fashion you desire to make your own episode of Jackass. Players can then upload their shows to a server and allow people to download their shows. The game will also have other downloadable features such as new stunts and other features. Jackass: The Game is planned to be released on September 24. Stay tuned for more on Jackass: The Game.
