People seem to be of a mixed mind when it comes to the upcoming Astro Boy movie by Warner Bros. and Imagi, the Hong Kong studio which created the last Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie. Some seem to like it, sure, but others seem predisposed to hate it with every fiber of their being, well before it hits theaters.
And if the movie is coming under that much scrutiny, you can only imagine that the game would come under that much more, especially with its limited availability on the Wii, Nintendo DS, PlayStation Portable, and PS2, leaving out the high-definition hardware. Fortunately, High Voltage Software is on the case, and as we've seen, they aren't bad at pulling some neat tricks out of lower technology.
Nonetheless, the project marches on, and a new trailer has been released to announce the title's release date:
Truth be told, I really don't know what to say about the movie, but the game looks like it could be a pretty good platformer. The real problem is, Astro Boy already had an extremely good platformer in SEGA and Treasure's 2004 title, Astro Boy: Omega Factor for the Game Boy Advance.
So naturally, there will likely be a lot of inclination among reviewers and fans alike to draw comparisons. The question then becomes a little less about whether or not this game can be a good game, and a little more about how well it stacks up to its predecessor.
Fortunately, SEGA's PlayStation 2 Astro Boy game wasn't as warmly received, so if it can best that, it might do alright for itself.
