Media: Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars Trailer and Gameplay
October 21, 2009 | 3:59 PM PST
It's been six months since Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars surfaced on the Nintendo DS, and here we are, nearing the end of October, and the PSP version is now available, too.
I wonder, though. Does this count as a port? A remake? Or is it simply like any other game that gets spread across multiple platforms of varying power and ability, only more conspicuous due to its release date?
Well, whatever the case may be, both DS and PSP owners can now jack some cars and deal some drugs while on the go, and to kick things off, here's the "Out for Revenge" release trailer for the PSP version:
Oh God, please tell me this is not what PSP trailers will look like from now on. I could accept it for the DS, because... well, what else are you going to do? But I hope this doesn't become any sort of lasting trend.
It is interesting how they chose to keep the gameplay the same as the DS version, in terms of the top-down perspective, rather than bring it into a more third-person style like the other"III-and-Up" GTA games. It even uses the same comic book-like art style to tell the story.
I suppose this way, no one who might have picked up the DS version will feel ripped off, such as the case might subjectively be.
Anyway, moving on to the next video, it appears that there is some "Unfinished Business" to take care of in Liberty City. Be warned, there is some language in this, but it's in text form, so it's at least slightly-safer-for-work.
It's interesting to see something more like the original style of GTA make a return. But I'm curious, does anyone have this yet? Played both versions? How does this stack up overall?
I wonder if there might be any chance of this being the new style for portable GTA, since they can clearly bring it to both portable systems with ease.
Finally, we've all heard that "pimpin' ain't easy," and neither is the "Life of a Gangster." More language abounds.
Final thought: I'm not sure if the different time periods and storylines would really allow it, but it would be neat if all the GTA protagonists came together in a game's story to form a sort of "ultimate gang," or syndicate, or whatever. Naturally, I wouldn't expect it to last very long, but it would be something to see, wouldn't it?
